Hello and Welcome
To River Tree Nursery.
This is a brand new company and website, coming from the beautiful coastal rainforest of the Pacific Northwest. I found myself on a large piece of land with an abundance of greenery and thought, I wonder if other people would want these plants? So I got a business license, a domain name, a few coco liners, and a shovel.
Right now the site is very basic, and my plant selection is limited. They are all potted with coco fiber liners. The buying and shipping process is confined to a local area and my Honda. But i have big ideas for this company, and am willing to work to see them come to reality.
My Goal
Involves self reliance, local agriculture, and greener, more useful yards across the Pacific Northwest and eventually the whole world.
Right now we face many issues as a society, and I have always felt a calling to do what I can to help. I never knew exactly what that entailed, but as i grew older I realized the first step is to secure a thriving, fully self sustaining food supply in local communities.
These plants can not only be foraged for a tasty snack or meal, but have traditional underutilized uses in areas such as textiles or medicine. I would love to see the cities and towns of the Pacific Northwest become an example to the world on how to properly use local plant resources to sustain a comfortable life while cutting back on unnecessary waste.
There is a massive amount of nature that has been destroyed for the sake of development. It is too late to take back what has happened, but what we can do is utilize our land in a way that benefits ourselves as well as the nature around us. If homes across the Pacific Northwest can start growing and using the plants that humans have used here to live for thousands of years, the benefits could be far reaching and lead to even more positive growth and change.
Plants are not my only interest, or idea for River Tree Nursery. Eventually I would like to expand into livestock, animal products, art dealing, textiles, sustainable building materials, crafting natural home products, living furniture, scrap/recycling, and much more.
I would like this company to some day become a place where people come together and have a sense of community. I'd like to sponsor events or concerts, fund public projects, donate to helping causes, that sort of thing. I'm not in this to hoard wealth, although i would like a steady income and have always wanted to own a successful business.
But even more than that i want to create a place where people of all kinds can come together and feel welcome and valued, without asking anything of them. I feel there is a lack of public spaces for us to feel connected, and I would like to see that change.
Roadmap
Short Term:
More plants. - There are hundreds of species of grass, shrubs, trees, and everything in between. Many species are edible, useful for crafting, medicinal, or just pretty to look at. As i grow, i will research these species and add them to the available sale list. Some upcoming plant examples include bracken fern, ivy, dewberry, elderberry, and bamboo. I will also source and grow succulents, cactus, fruit trees, and vegetable starts.
Hand made pots - Soon I would like to list baskets sourced right here and woven by me. They will become available when i have dialed in the process and have enough inventory.
Pot options - Once I have enough capitol, i can invest in all sorts of non plastic pots and have them available in various sizes for the customer to choose. I'd like to offer coco liner, terra cotta, concrete, wood, recycled metal, hand-made woven, and whatever else i think of.
Mid Term:
Better looking website design - filled with my photos of the plants, a better layout with custom graphics, and a unique logo.
Art shop - Eventually I would like to get prints made of my art and sell them here. I think it would be cool if i found other local artists and sold their work here as well.
Shipping - I will need to find a way to ship plants nationwide.
Game: I have a tabletop TCD in the works but instead of cards its potted plants
Long Term:
Some of these are ambitious but i would love to grow the company in all different branches and explore many different paths to success.
